Different friends: Most kids lose and make new friends on a regular basis, but if your child’s entire social circle has changed in a short period, make sure you take stock of who these new friends are.
Secretiveness: Most teens are secretive, but if your child consistently evades your routine questions, this could signal that he or she is engaging in bad behaviors.
Persistent lying: Many parents have a sixth sense for recognizing when their children are lying. If your intuition tells you your teen is not being honest with you, you might want to take a closer look at his or her activities.
Interest in counterculture: There’s nothing wrong with being out of the mainstream, but if your teen seems very interested in cultural movements that have been associated with drug use, then you might want to be on the lookout for other signs of drug abuse.
Disrespect: Drug-using teens often get into bad habits when it comes to relating with their parents. If your teen has recently started treating you disrespectfully, take this as a sign that something deeper is going on.
Lack of interest in activities: Kids involved in drug abuse often lose interest in activities that they used to enjoy.
