The formula is a trade secret. The taste varies somewhat, due to the variations in ingredients…corn syrup can taste different, etc. Cooking isn’t a science.

Coca Cola has a “secret ingredient” called 7X, which is a great advertising gimmick. Amazingly, other cola companies do just fine without 7X.

P.S. It doesn’t contain cocaine anymore.

Cola (and I’d asume coca-cola is no exception) is a combination of cinnamon, caramel, citrus, and nutmeg. The exact combination of these flavorings and others is a closely guarded secret. Coca Cola is NOT the same all over the world. Mexican Coke is something of a commodity around here (california) because it contains real sugar and is a bit sweeter than american coke.
