Question by Lizzy S: have a check sent from UK for rent but doesn’t say that it’s 4 rent can i cash it and not pay for rent?
This girl was supposed to replace my lease contract and sent me a cashier’s check for it. The check is to me, but it does not say it is for rent. I found someone else to replace my rent and she already signed the lease. Can I still cash in my check even though she doesn’t need to pay for the rent anymore? Can she sue me if I did? There is no evidence that this check was for rent.

if it is not specifically marked for rent then you can use it for whatever you want. all she will know is that the check cleared. she won’t know what you used it for unless you tell her.

As for being sued because you cash a check? Well Im sure a decent lawyer would be able to win a case against you for this. Without knowing all of the details, Id say its not a good idea to cash the check.
