Question by screekrunner: Does a crack addict father effect the baby?
Ok my question is if the father of a child is a crack addict and the mother is 100% clean will this effect the child in anyway at all? Birth defects, mentally, later in life, anything at all.
Please don’t give me opinions either only actual facts or information from studies. Also if anyone knows of any articles on this could you please post where I can read it because I couldn’t find anything. Thanks!

On a genetic level, no. Crack cannot alter the genetic code of a male’s semen. Only the mother can effect the baby by using crack cocaine.
An addicted parental figure, especially to such a harsh drug as crack, is not a good influence in a child’s life. It is believed by many psychologists that a child that is exposed to drug use or addiction throughout his/her life will have a very high chance of being an addict themselves. Whether it’s crack, alcohol or cigarettes, this happens and it happens all the time. The first link is a website that can offer more information on the matter.
Also the father should not smoke crack, if this is his method, around the mother. The effects of “second-hand crack smoke” is probably debated, but the effects crack has on the fetus is so dire and profound that I wouldn’t even want to risk it.
