Can a Company You Are Applying Too See Your Medical History / Charts From Any Type of Background Check ?
Question by : Can a company you are applying too see your medical history / charts from any type of background check ?
Ok, my brother used cocaine in 2002. After he stopped using it he would get pains in his chest months after and he went to the ER twice, they found nothing wrong. He told the doctors he stopped using cocaine because he thought that might have something to do with it. It was most likely anxiety or gas, since it is 2010 and he is still here.
Now would companies he is applying to be able to see that he told doctors he used to use cocaine ? Can they see his medical charts in any type of background check ?
And how can he see his own medical records to see if it is on there ?
He was never tested positive, he just told the doctors that he used to use it.
I would think when he gets hired and applies for health insurance with the company, the insurance company might be able to see it.
He wants to know because he has been unemployed since 2009 and thinks that they might see “cocaine” on his medical history when they do a background check and not want to hire him. He is applying for general labor type jobs.

His employer will not be able to obtain his medical information. Medical information is confidential due to HIPAA.

NOBODY can see his medical history unless he gives them permission to. It’s called the HIPPA privacy act. Medical history will not show up on his background check or anything else in this world, because of that privacy law. The only way anyone can gain access to his medical history is if he gives his written consent.

Hist Ch Cocaine History Between the Lines ¦ 720p [5/6] – This two-hour special goes inside the history of the second most used illicit drug in America. The human appetite for this narcotic goes all the way back to 3000 BC, when South Americans chewed coca leaves, thinking they were a gift from God. But it wasn’t until 1855, when cocaine was first extracted from the coca leaf and used in powder form that its use spiked. Initially it was utilized as an anesthesia. Soon, famed psychologist Sigmund Freud touted it as an effective cure for depression and impotence. In 1886, John Pemberton, an Atlanta pharmacist, added it to his new soft drink: Coca Cola or Coke for short. In 1914, the drug was outlawed, but the damaged had been done. The 70’s ushered in another boost in the drug’s use, fueled in part by new drug cartels in South America. To combat cocaine’s rise, the Reagan administration started the War on Drugs in the 80’s.
