The major problem in Chile is that there are Chileans all over the place.

Chile sets itself apart from most of South Americans. A saying I heard is that “the coffee didn’t make over the mountains but neither did the cocaine!” (Like parts of Europe, instant Nescafe is popular) They tend to assume black skinned people are Brazilian and they sort of feel Brazilians are lower class. Violence against others is rare, however. I think Chile is a bit like a small town-it may take more time for acceptance but get past most first impressions.
