“Glue” covers, literally, THOUSANDS of types… You can smoke Elmer’s glue all you want and it won’t do anything… But there are a plethora of other types of glue that do get you “High” but it does so with great damage to your brain.
“Glue” boils down to “Huffing” and Huffing isn’t about a chemical getting you high, but is more about lack of oxygen to the brain giving you euphoria.
To state this in another way, when you do other drugs, like Marijuana or Opiates of Cocaine, the psychoactive chemicals in the drugs act directly on the brain to alter your perceptions and get you high.
Huffing, be it glue, nail polish, solvents, helium, Nitrous Oxide, etc. prevents your lungs from absorbing oxygen, leading to a head rush that is felt by your body as a “High”.
It is the same “High” as kids get when playing “The Choking Game” by tying something around their throats and depriving their brains of blood.
Teens/Adults do this in connection with Masturbation or Intercourse and it is called “Auto Erotic Asphyxiation” and it kills MANY people each year. That actor David Carradine was found in an Asian Hotel Room hanging in the closet as he choked himself while masturbating.
Whatever method you use to get “High” in this manner, you are denying your brain oxygen which kills brain tissue.
Remember Terri Schivo back in the early 2000’s? The chick that was in a Persistent Vegetive State for 15+ years and wasn’t allowed to die? She got the brain damage that caused that coma like state because her heart stopped (because of a potassium deficiency caused by bulimia) which denied blood to her brain.
She did in a few short minutes what you do to your brain in the long term by huffing…
Deny the brain blood/oxygen and you destroy brain cells.
If you NEED to get high, Huffing is the LAST thing you should try… I’d rather see kid freebasing oxycontin and having to deal with heroin addiction than huffing and destroying their brain cells. (Well, I’d rather see them do none of the above but if you have to go with the lesser of two evils…)
p.s. Helium Hypoxia, which boils down to huffing helium, is one the the fastest growing means of suicide in the world. If you get helium balloons and breath it in to make your voice squeekie, you can do it too often and pass out and lead to brain damage. Look up “Helium Suicide” and you’ll see just how reliable Huffing is at killing a person.
